Hook Information

Students will formulate an introductory paragraph dealing with the following prompt:

You’ve just read two passages about technology issues. Write an informational essay describing the impact of too much technology. Be sure to use evidence from both passages. Avoid over-relying on one passage.

Students were given an outline in class to complete to help them organize their thoughts dealing with the topic.  Students are to write a strong introductory paragraph dealing with the prompt.

Help:

There is Hook and Thesis help on the Argumentative Writing Link.  There is also a link above that allows you to see examples of hooks.  Students may NOT use a question as a hook.

Above, there are links for the two articles students are using for to write assignment.

Introduction:
  • an opening statement or question that attracts the reader's attention — this is often called "the hook",
  • supporting sentences which link (bridge) "the hook" to the thesis (include article names (tag))
  • thesis statement that states the purpose and plan of the whole essay.
