Welcome to HONORIS ENGLISH (MS 8B)! I am SO excited about your 8th grade yearI This year we will be working on the TN state standards for English!  We will focus heavily on Literature, Informational Texts, Language, and Writing!

Read2Write Quarter 2

Our Writing assignments for the 2nd quarter have been added to my pages (red box to the right - on a mobile device scroll all the way down and it is there!)
This includes....
-writing tasks
-due dates (which have been changed from Q1 - the kids are excited!!) 
-ingredients list (use it as a checklist!)
-grading rubrics for each assignment
We HAVE BEEN to the library, therefore, if your student isn't reading, he/she should be!!

Week 1 Read 2 Write Assignment

Parents & Students! Here is the information for our Independent Writing Assignments.  
This is Week 1.  Week 1's essay is due on AUGUST 28. 
Week 1 Prompt:  Argue why this character is the best or the worst character. 

Informational Essay - Due March 23

Your Information essay prompt is below! 
  • It MUST be in your class period's OneNote Notebook by MARCH 23
  • Be sure to have someone else read it to check for any careless errors/revisions
  • Include an introduction, body, and conclusion
"Compare and contrast at least 2 characters from our unit who have faced adversity. Create a thesis and use textual evidence to support your evaluation. Include a critical analysis of the adversity faced, noting if it is circumstantial or by choice. "

Grammar/Writing Stations

Station 1 (Laptops)
1. Watch the video about Compound-Complex Sentences from Khan Academy
2. Complete the Compound-Complex Sentences Practice 
3. Copy and Paste your results into the Class Notes tab in the Class Notebook! (titled - Station 1) 
Station 2 (Writing)
1. Work on your Informative Essay, due to the Notebook BEFORE MARCH 23 (Homework Section) 
Station 3 (Computers)
1. write 5 COMPOUND-COMPLEX sentences
2. Write those in the Class Notes section of your Class Notebook (titled - Station 3)
Station 4 (textbook/forms)
1. Review Parts of speech: page 121 - complete 1-20, following the directions. 
Station 5
1. Continue Writing your Informative Essay! It must be IN THE CLASS NOTEBOOK before MARCH 23 (Homework Section)

Argument Essay Homework!!

Good Evening!!! Make sure you have your "Write an Argument Essay" (STEPS 1-6) homework READY TO GO on Friday (Nov. 11)!!! Finish your introductory paragraph for a special treat!!! The handout is attached if you accidentally forgot to bring it home!!! Have a great night and i'll see you tomorrow READY TO LEARN!
