Mr. Decker is entering his 18th year in education. He began his career in 2007 at Siegel High School as an Economics teacher and basketball coach. In 2010, he was hired as part of the inaugural staff at OMS and served 7 years as a teacher, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Dean of Students, Department Chair, and Principal Designee. Mr. Decker was then hired as the first Assistant Principal at Rocky Fork Middle School where he helped open the school and establish a culture of success and community. He then had the opportunity to come back to the Oakland community in 2018 as an Assistant Principal at Oakland High School where he served for 4 years until being named Principal at OMS in 2022.
 
Mr. Decker received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from Middle Tennessee State University, followed by his Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision from MTSU, and finally his Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from MTSU.
 
Mr. Decker believes the foundation of a successful school is built on trust, transparency, safety, effective Tier 1 instruction, and effective PLCs. He believes in the partnership between the school and parents to provide a safe and successful learning environment for all students at Oakland Middle. High expectations and accountability coupled with support and a caring approach will be at the core of every decision that is made for the students, parents, and staff of Oakland Middle School.

Ms. Hughes

Dr. Mills is entering her 25th year in education. She began her career in 1999 as a teacher for missionary families in Mexico City. Later she taught high school English at the Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico City.

 

In 2004, Dr. Mills returned to Tennessee to work as a graduate assistant and later to teach 5th grade at John Colemon Elementary. Dr. Mills then moved to the border town of Brownsville, Texas where she taught for 4 years. In 2011, she became an Academic Administrator for Ortiz Elementary where she was the campus administrator for curriculum and instruction for 3 years. She later served as a Texas Literacy Specialist for a year before returning to Tennessee in 2015. She taught ESL at Hobgood Elementary for a year before serving as an Education Consultant for the TN Department of Children Services (DCS).

 

Dr. Mills later served as an ESL teacher for LaVergne Middle School before joining Oakland Middle School in 2020. She was selected by the TN Department of Education as a reviewer for Educator Preparation Providers (EPP) programs and an ESL presenter. She has served as a bias and sensitivity reviewer for WIDA. During her time with Rutherford County, she has been a department lead, curriculum lead, dean of students, and curriculum writer, as well as been on the campus leadership and assessment team. She currently is serving as an Assistant Principal at Oakland Middle School.

 

Dr. Mills received her Bachelor's degree in education and Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from MTSU. She completed the Administration and Supervision Program from the University of Texas at Brownsville. She earned her Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction and her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University.

 

Dr. Mills believes there is no greater investment than pouring into the next generation. She believes students should not only be able to attain knowledge through reading, thinking, and experiencing, but to confidently and critically apply new knowledge. Individuals should always be growing, progressing, and contributing. Through continually learning, students are enabled to continually add more value to themselves, their families, and their communities.

Mr. Hutchings is entering his 27th year in education. He started teaching in 1998, at Rock Springs Elementary School, teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math. He has served all 25 years of his career in Rutherford County Schools. He has been a teacher as well as a golf and archery coach in several schools in our district but has been in the Oakland community of schools since the fall of 2008. He began at Oakland High School, teaching Algebra I and Geometry.  In 2010, Mr. Hutchings helped open Oakland Middle School, as the Tech. Ed./STEM teacher. Mr. Hutchings served as a Dean of Students for 10 years at all three grade levels. After a two-year trip back to Oakland High School, he returned to OMS as the Career Explorations teacher and 8th grade Dean of Students for the 2022-2023 school year. He is excited to continue his tenure at OMS as an Assistant Principal.

 

Mr. Hutchings is a graduate of Oakland High School (class of 1991) and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education (Mathematics) from the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he was a member of the UTM Golf Team. Mr. Hutchings earned his M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision of K-12 Public Schools from Middle Tennessee State University in 2006, and his Educational Specialist’s Degree in Administration and Supervision of K-12 Public Schools from MTSU in 2013.

Mr. Hutchings believes that students who feel safe are in the best position to learn. He also believes that teachers that cultivate a safe, fun, interesting learning environment are most likely to have success with their students, and that student ownership of learning is critical for their success. Finally, Mr. Hutchings believes that by taking ownership of their learning, students are emboldened to be fruitful contributors to their families and their communities, now and in the future.

 

Mr. Hutchings is married to Megan, his wife of 17 years. They have 3 kids, Vance, Jack, and Joy and live in Readyville on the family farm with their dog Henry.

Mrs. Beasley is entering her 13th year in education, which has all been at Oakland Middle School. Since her beginning, she has had the opportunity to serve Oakland Middle as a 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade ELA teacher, a reading interventionist, and Dean of Students. She has also had the opportunity to work with the Tennessee Department of Education as a TCAP item reviewer.  Mrs. Beasley has a Master's degree in Administrative Leadership from Carson Newman College and a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University. 
 
Mrs. Bealsey believes all students can learn as long as they have someone willing to push them, protect them, and care for them like one of their own children. Building relationships with teachers, students, and community members will lead to the safety and achievement needed for our students to grow. She is excited to serve the teachers, students, and community at a higher level.
