Theater Expectations

This program is designed around you!  Its intention is to allow you the freedom to create, explore, collaborate and find out more about yourself and the world around you.  It is a program that's demanding and challenging, yet also very fun and exciting.

Our Expectations are broken down into a few different categories:

Be Respectful

    • Show respect for others, for yourself, and for the things around you
    • Ask for help when you need it- We are here to help you!
    • Collaborate and work together, do your fair share.
    • Sometimes you might be doing something that challenges you or makes you nervous.  This is not the time nor the place to make fun of someone.  Support one another, build each other up.  That's how we grow as learners and actors.
    • Be respectful of the stage.  When you are on stage pay attention to what is going on.  Do NOT miss your cues.  Stay quiet.  We should not ever hear voices from backstage.

Be Excellent
    • Attend rehearsals regularly, punctually, and fully prepared for the day.
    • You ALWAYS need your script, pencil, and highlighter
    • Make appropriate choices- Make this an enjoyable class for everyone.
    • Keep a positive attitude and be kind in your actions.

Be Determined
    • Give 100% effort to all you do and don't be afraid to make mistakes because they happen and we all learn from them!
    • The theater is not a perfect science and not every performance is going to be great.  We're learning about resiliency and the importance of continually trying our best and seeking improvement.
    • Do the right thing for yourself and others.
    • Take risks, and don't be afraid to try something new.

Rehearsal Procedures
  • This refers to behaviors such as: having scripts and other materials out for rehearsal, staying focused and on-task, communicating well with those around you, exercising self-control, treating all theater participants with respect, and refining performance through repetition.

Performance Preparedness
  • Theater students are expected to perform on their assigned rehearsal dates.  In the theatre, if you miss a rehearsal you run the risk of letting down everyone else in the production, which will let down the audience.  Please be proactive and make sure that you are available for all assigned rehearsals and performances.   If you are sick, you are expected to take the steps necessary to catch up on what you have missed.

COMMUNICATE
  • One of the biggest issues we have in this program is a lack of communication.  If you are going to be absent from a rehearsal a parent MUST contact me BEFORE the rehearsal begins.  Contact AFTER rehearsal begins will count as an unexcused absence.

Rehearsal Absences
  • The theater program is a privilege, not a right. You auditioned for this spot and you earned it over other students who could gladly make rehearsal time.   This year any absence from rehearsal will be taken very seriously.  3 unexcused absences will result in expulsion from the program.
  • Excused absences include:
    1. Being absent from school: If you are absent from school due to illness you should not come to rehearsal
    2. Any absence that is communicated in advance

ZERO TOLERANCE (For any theater event or trip)
There are some things that will result in immediate expulsion from the theater program.
  • PDA: Public displays of affection.  This is a school program, not a social event.  PDA of any kind is not professional and will be a zero-tolerance offense.  We get that you "love" each other, but this is not the setting for hanging on each other, sitting on laps, kissing, and any other types of affection.  We treat this program as a professional environment, and you are expected to as well.
  • Suspension: Being suspended from school is a zero-tolerance offense.  If the administration deems the offense is serious enough for suspension, then so do we.
  • Dean referrals: 3 dean referrals will result in expulsion from the program
